An Any-Shape Image Cropper is a creative utility designed to cut out portions of photos or graphics into geometric and decorative shapes rather than standard rectangular crops. Standard cropping tools only allow square or rectangular aspect ratios. This browser-based tool allows cutting images into circles, ovals, stars, hearts, crescents, infinity loops, and polygons with customizable properties like border-radius, rotation, and custom outline stroke widths.
When you load an image, it is drawn in a dimmed layout on an interactive workspace. The crop path overlay is rendered on top in real-time. Moving and resizing recalculates coordinates relative to the image's original dimensions. During export, an offscreen canvas is created at full resolution. The 2D rendering context translates and rotates to the target crop center, draws the shape's path (and rounds polygon corners if selected), clips the drawing context, and paints the original image. Finally, the bounding box of the cropped area is copied to a new canvas and exported as a data URI.
You are creating a team roster page for a website and want to crop employee headshots into octagonal shapes with a thin blue border and rounded corners.
A perfectly centered octagonal headshot with rounded corners and a blue border, exported with transparent margins, ready to insert into your site's CSS layout.
No. Like all our graphic tools, the Any-Shape Image Cropper runs 100% locally in your web browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your pictures are never uploaded, shared, or saved on any servers.
You can export your cropped images in PNG, WebP, or JPEG formats. PNG and WebP support transparent regions (perfect for circular or custom-shaped crops). If you choose JPEG, transparent regions will be filled with a solid background color of your choice since JPEGs don't support alpha transparency.
The Border Radius slider adjusts the corner rounding of polygonal shapes (like triangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, etc.) and rectangles. Curves like circles or complex curve paths like hearts are already smooth, so the corner rounding applies strictly to vertex-based shapes.
Yes! You can click the 'Copy to Clipboard' button to copy a PNG version of the cropped image. You can then paste it directly into design tools like Figma, Photoshop, Word documents, or chat applications. Note that clipboard copying requires a secure connection (HTTPS) to function in modern browsers.
The tool processes your images at their original full resolution when exporting, meaning you won't lose quality. Large images (up to 50 MB) can be processed easily depending on your computer's RAM and CPU capabilities.
Cut through the limitations of rectangular crops. The free online Any-Shape Image Cropper offers an intuitive, browser-based solution to trim photos into circles, triangles, stars, hearts, and custom rounded polygons. Complete with border customization, rotation, and clipboard copying, this private tool is perfect for avatars, designs, and content creation.
